Sweet Ladyslipper
Six movements of high difficulty, dedicated to the memory of John Fleagle, musician extraordinaire and founding member of LiveOak, for solo guitar.
A prelude sets the mood of a young man at Berklee School of Music studying jazz [well it's a little bluesy really]; time moves quickly, the blues becomes all too real for that youing man now has cancer before he has even reached his mid life. Pavane for a dying prince, for prince he was, is my lament for John Fleagle, my enigmatic, but charismatic, partner in my early years of a musical career. Four more movements follow the pain of this time: Complainte [for his many unrequited loves], Estampie [for the delight in dance he took], Cantiga [for his lyricism] and Zar [an Egyptian dance of great power in which the dancer does not move her feet]. Sing on John.....John Fleagle died n the spring of 2000.
