| Gyre Music is a small company founded in the year 2000 by Frank Wallace and Nancy Knowles. Owned and operated by artists, the quality and integrity of its products is guaranteed. All steps in the production process, including the website, is carried out by the artists and occasionally their artist colleagues, from the conception to the recording, editing, photography and design. The excellence of our products is a testament to the power of art when given freedom from constraint. Modern technology has allowed us to create in this way. The seeds of this work were planted in 1979, when, as a trio specializing in medieval music (with medieval instruments on our backs), we followed the ancient pilgrimage routes on foot over the Pyrennees mountains to Montserrat, near Barcelona, famed since time immemorial as a "mountain of miracles". The miracle that changed our ears forever on that trip was the experience of singing medieval chants and part songs in the haunting acoustic of the many 11th and 12th century Romanesque churches of Catalunya. Thanks to Christopher Schaub, singer/lutenist, for all his help in computers and business, Elsa Voelcker and Adam Wallace for their photographs. We will be expanding our offerings in the future, and welcome inquiries from other accomplished artists in the field of voice and/or plucked strings who are interested in more control over their products, as well as feedback or questions from the listening/playing public. |
